You are a dancer
No matter why you’re here…
My hope is for you to develop a more loving and compassionate relationship with your body through movement…Because movement is the foundation of all communication!Beyond the trite, overused clichés about body language, scientists are starting to believe that dance is why we can speak. In recent years, there’s been some fascinating research on language development and its origins, suggesting that…Our ability to move our bodies rhythmically is the basis for our ability for speech and spoken communication.
“But I’m not a dancer!”
Many people feel nervous about moving their body in front of others. Most haven’t had much or any formal dance training, so they’re understandably apprehensive about having their movements analyzed or judged.Thankfully, dance therapy isn’t about what your movement looks like. How it looks is only important inasmuch as it reveals patterns that can help you understand how you relate to the world and yourself. What’s particularly important is how it FEELS, what it REVEALS, and HOW IT HELPS YOU integrate your mind, body, and spirit.
It turns out that EVERYONE is a dancer.
In a typical therapy session, we begin by exploring what you would most like to focus on. Perhaps it’s a continuation of a theme explored in the previous session or a desire to address something that happened the week before. The approach is always the same regardless of the focus: learn, experiment, and integrate.Like my overall approach to treatment planning, each session involves exploring a topic or theme, experimenting with different coping skills, and then working to integrate what’s been learned into your larger tool kit.Movement can happen at any point during this process… if it happens at all. While the body is always central to our work, that doesn’t always mean we’ll be up and exploring through movement. Sometimes, more traditional talk therapy or seated somatic interventions make the most sense. At other times, moving without words is best. Our direction will always be what’s best for you and your needs.
Overcoming your fear…
You might still feel uncomfortable about moving during therapy, even after hearing all this. That’s okay!Much of our work in session is overcoming fears and limiting beliefs by slowly examining their roots and experimenting with how to shift them. Learning to feel comfortable moving your body is no different.Somatic techniques can be helpful here, and that’s typically where we’ll begin. While dance therapy uses expression through movement as the catalyst for change, somatic therapy is more concerned with your experience of your body and the external world as the place where change happens.By understanding your experience of yourself in the world, you can gain insights that make you more comfortable in your skin and advance you toward your goals.

Work with me
Are you worn down and burned out?
Most of the women who come to me for individual therapy are frustrated and exhausted. They feel like they’ve tried everything – either on their own or with another therapist. But they just can’t figure out how to overcome their anxiety, stress, and overwhelm. This is often due to a few main issues I see in traditional therapy methods.
General approaches to unique problem...
In my experience, most efforts at “self-improvement” fail because they don’t address the unique needs of YOUR nervous system or YOUR experience of reality. To overcome deeply entrenched patterns, you need a deep understanding of how you experience the world. You can’t expect to change it if you don’t know how or why it’s happening.
Not paying attention to the body…
It’s a major pitfall of most traditional forms of therapy and self-development.Your body is an essential part of your experience, so a lot of information is stored in it.If you want to know what you can do differently, it’s wise to heed the body’s wisdom.
services
Individual
Whether your seeking therapy to manage ADHD, anxiety or heal from past emotional wounding or trauma events, individual sessions are tailored to meet your needs and experience. My unique approach is a fusion of movement and somatic methods, backed by the lates research in neuroscience and presented in the Learn, Experiments, Integrate framework described above. While I ask all clients to be willing to move their body, I am a firm believer in meeting people where they are and recognize people have varied levels of comfort and accessibility with movement. All sessions are 55 min. in length and I strongly recommend attending weekly or bi-weekly sessions depending on your needs.
Couples
I specialize in working with couples who want to improve their communication, prepare for a major life transition like marriage or children, or are looking to increase intimacy.Regardless of your reason for seeking couples counseling, understanding your partner on a deep level and learning how to have difficult conversations are the foundation of all healthy relationships and will be a focus of our time together.I will help you build this foundation through body-centered methods that draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and The Gottman Method - often considered to be the two "gold standards" of couples work.Sessions are 55 minutes and I recommend weekly or bi-weekly sessions depending on your needs.
Neurofeedback
We all know the research around the benefits of meditation, but every time you sit down and try you find yourself wondering, “am I doing this right?”What if there was a way to know you were rewiring your brain? A way to feel, in real time, the progress you were making? There is! It’s called neurofeedback, and now you can access this powerful method of brain training from the comfort of your own home.No more commutes to an office, no messy gel in your hair. Just 20 minutes a day of training and you’re on your way to better sleep, less anxiety, and more control over your ADHD symptoms! In addition to the convenience, you also get access to the TheraQ Assessment, which takes the guess work our of treatment by giving us a snapshot of your brain’s functioning so we can design the exact protocol for your needs.
My Approach
My approach to both individual and couples therapy is modeled after a “phase-oriented" framework, which was first developed to treat trauma. It offers a structure that will set you up for success in therapy and greatly reduce your time spent in treatment. While I cannot guarantee treatment length, I have found that using this more structured approach helps clients see results in months, not years.
LEARN
You’ll explore your unique experience of reality through the five building blocks of experience: thoughts, perception, inner sensation, emotion, and movement. We’ll assess your learning with traditional, movement, and self-created measures to ensure you fully grasp the knowledge you’ve acquired.
EXPERIMENT
Now that you understand exactly how you experience the world and the unique needs of your nervous system, we can devise experiments and activities to acquaint you with new coping skills. You'll be guided through the trial and error process to help lessen the amount of friction you experience.
INTEGRATE
As you gain confidence in creating, developing, and implementing coping strategies, you will learn to design interventions that work for your unique experience. Now you're ready to graduate from therapy, armed with everything you need to tackle the obstacles you'll experience in the future.
Specialties
ADHD
If one more person tells you to “make a list,” or to “just try harder,” you are going to pull your hair out! Why can’t people see how hard you’re already trying?Don’t they know you’ve already done all of those things? Don’t they realize that if you could get yourself to do it, you would have already?Living with an invisible brain difference is painful. You’ve spent your entire life misunderstood, judged and dismissed, perhaps believing the labels you’ve been given. It’s not just about learning to navigate the world with your unique wiring - it’s about addressing the limiting beliefs you’ve created after years of being misunderstood.
Trauma
Paralyzed by an unseen force, enraged at the drop of a hat, plagued by self-doubt and fears of never being “good enough,” symptoms of trauma come in many forms.Sometimes we are struggling with the aftermath of a traumatic event or trying to navigate life after being deeply wounded by someone we cared about, regardless, healing is possible. While I am an expert in treating all forms of trauma, it is important to note that some people will need the physical presence of a professional to safely navigate the experience. Due to the virtual nature of my practice, I try to be mindful about which clients are appropriate for Telehealth and which may need to see someone in person. If you’re unsure of what you might need don’t hesitate to reach out so I can point you towards the right resources.
Anxiety
That familiar feeling of dread grabs ahold of you. Your thoughts are racing and, no matter what you do, you can’t seem to calm yourself down. The problem with anxiety is that it feels like you can’t control it. You try to think your way out of how you feel, but you can’t calm the body down with the mind.Which is why the first thing I teach my clients is how to use the body to calm the nervous system so they can start to feel better now, not later.
You are the expert; I am the guide
After working in the mental health field for nearly 15 years, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that each person is their own expert. The only thing holding you back is the knowledge and the confidence to push through failure.I’m here to help - with respect, curiosity, and collaboration. Our relationship will be the most critical factor in your success, so let’s see if we’re a good fit!I’d love to hear more about you and your goals. Call today, and we’ll schedule your free consultation.
The Threshold
The Threshold is a free resource library for clients to access in between sessions. After working with individuals in therapy for nearly a decade, it's clear that the majority of the work is done in between sessions as people live their lives. Which is why I wanted to create way for clients to have access to the material and practices they learn in session at their finger tips whenever they need it.Thus, The Threshold was born. The library contains videos ranging from psychoeducation to classes on movement, breath work and meditation, all designed to help support clients as they move through their journey of transformation.Login below with the password provided to you on intake.
